Texture Vessels

Multisensory Tea Experience

Drinking tea is an essential part of my morning. I enjoy taking my time in the moment to really appreciate the warmth, smell, and flavors of my morning tea. But I found that the cup the tea was in was less important than the tea - it wasn’t made to be beautiful, just to hold a liquid.

Shapeways, a rapid prototyping resource, once offered a 3D-printed porcelain material that did not require the tooling and large machinery of traditional ceramics manufacturing. I chose to explore this unique process and created tea cups that focus on unique surface texture, doing away with the handle and allowing the user to enjoy the warmth of the drink as well as its container more intimately.
