Incense Burners
Handcrafted for a mindful space
I love the atmosphere that incense creates, and I’ve wanted to design an incense burner for a long time. For many people, crystals and incense go hand-in-hand in creating a proper meditative space. I saw an opportunity to use some leftover concrete mix and create designs that blended cast concrete forms with sparkling colorful crystals.
Beyond being a useful incense burner, the design needed to be able to stand on its own as a sculptural accent when not in use. With that in mind, I sketched out some concepts in Fusion 360 and visualized the designs with a crystal inlay in Keyshot.
Two designs were chosen, 3D printed, and prepared for mold-making. Both prints were cleaned and sanded carefully, as silicone can pick up incredibly small details and imperfections.
Zen Burner
With heavy inspiration drawn from the raked sand patterns of Japanese zen gardens, the design invites the user to visually trace the pattern and reflect on the interconnectedness of everything. The two islands appear separate, but are actually connected by the wave pattern between them.
Triple Moon Burner
The triple moon is a Pagan and spiritual symbol represents the moon in its waxing, full, and waning states. Also called the “Triple Goddess” symbol, each moon phase holds a deeper meaning connected to phases of life (youth, middle age, and old age) as well as divine feminine energy. The symmetry of the design allows the user to burn two sticks of incense at once, for those who enjoy mixing scents to create a more unique experience.
